What I wear…

This is something that I get asked a lot. By brides and by other photographers. Since I always get asked, “What do you wear to weddings?” I thought that I would share. When I first started photographing weddings, I thought that you HAD to wear black. Head to toe black. I though that I was supposed to blend in with all the other vendors and not stand out at all. Well over the years, I have changed my way of thinking. First off, this is the most memorable & special day to my bride and groom. It’s a celebration and I feel that it should be celebrated. Even down to the shoes that you wear. I like to think of myself as a guest so I should dress like a guest. I don’t want to blend in with waiters and the bartender. I want to show my personality in my wedding outfits, down to my shoes :)

So here are a few outfits that I put together that express me as an artist, a photographer and as a professional.I love color but at a wedding, you don’t want to wear too much. Most people are shocked when I tell them that I wear skirts and dresses 90% of the time but honestly, it’s what I am most comfortable in. I feel most like myself in a gorgeous dress or fitted skirt. I’ve done it for so long now that it’s just, well, ME. In the cooler months I will wear pants but I steer clear of black. In fact, I don’t even think that I own a pair! I just feel like being a photographer is such a creative job that your clothes should reflect that as well.

Just for fun, I put some others together for what I may wear to an engagement shoot. I want to be comfortable but again, I want my clothes to reflect who I am as a person as well. Engagement sessions are sometimes the first time I am meeting my couples so I try to make a good impression and show that I am the same person away from the camera as I am behind it.So I hope that this helps any brides that had this question and any photographers looking to break out of the same old rut. It’s a new year and a fresh start so go buy yourself something pretty and HAVE FUN!!
